Distilling the café experience into a cohesive brand.

From Trondheim’s first modern coffee bar to twelve cafés and a bakery of its own, Dromedar has spent nearly three decades serving quality coffee and handcrafted baked goods.

With their welcoming atmosphere, hand-drawn sidewalk signs and relaxed dress code, Dromedar’s cafés remain the neighbourhood coffee shop — wherever you happen to be.

Dromedar as a brand lacked visual consistency across channels.

Dromedar needed a new website to better showcase its products, improve navigation and communicate what the brand stands for. It also became an opportunity to refresh the visual identity and create a more cohesive brand system.

Across its touchpoints, Dromedar’s brand had become inconsistent. The craftsmanship and quality that set it apart from competing chains — from freshly roasted coffee to a bakery making everything from scratch — was under-communicated.

The solution was to embrace Dromedar’s duality: urban and innovative, and local and established. A tension rooted in its history as Trondheim’s first modern coffee bar, and in nearly three decades of experience. Familiar yet premium. Playful yet confident. As challenging as it is experienced.

Dromedar’s brand was at its strongest, most consistent and most true to itself in its cafés. The materials, the people and the details became the guiding principle behind everything that followed.

The visual language is modern, approachable and editorial. Generous whitespace, oversized typography and the interplay between the primary and secondary typefaces create a subtle sense of play, while a conversational tone-of-voice extends all the way into links and navigation.

Bridging the gap between the digital and physical brand experience, the first thing visitors encounter on the website, is a hand-drawn sidewalk sign created by one of Dromedar’s own baristas. Each illustration is credited and changes with the seasons, holidays and campaigns.

Photography by Trondheim-based photographer Kristoffer Wittrup embraces the imperfect. Shot with direct flash, the images capture genuine moments and traces of everyday life—from people and half-eaten sandwiches to empty espresso cups.

Dromedar’s existing brand typeface, the modernist sans serif Sofia Pro, was retained. Paired with the serif Pulpo, it creates a dialogue between innovation and tradition that reflects the brand’s duality.

The logo has been refined through a series of small adjustments, including a more distinctive typographic treatment and the addition of the founding year, 1997.

The palette expands Dromedar’s signature navy and gold with two warm earth tones — a soft beige for larger surfaces, and a rich brown replacing black throughout the identity.

Hand-drawn icons add personality and improve navigation, while badges highlight key messages and create visual variety.

The refreshed identity balances innovation with tradition, and playfulness with confidence. The result is a brand that feels unmistakably Dromedar: Distinctive, contemporary and rooted in almost 30 years of craftsmanship and experience.
